Welcome! I’m Brent Reed, an organizational researcher and educator.
I’m an Assistant Professor of Psychological and Organizational Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where my research examines how people psychologically connect to their work and how those connections shape their thoughts, feelings, and actions.
I study experiences such as seeing work as part of one’s identity or as a calling, feeling a strong sense of commitment to work, and continuing to think about work outside of work hours. I am particularly interested in how seemingly positive connections to work can also have unintended consequences, including burnout, tension between work and non-work life, and withdrawal from work. My research draws on a range of methods to capture how these processes unfold over time, including qualitative research as well as longitudinal and experience-sampling approaches.
